Science Fiction Opening

“Last train to Elysium, Mars will be boarding in five minutes!”
Sophia looked down at the wristwatch on her right wrist. The second hand seemed to tick quite rapidly over the sugary pink background. She looked back up to see creatures of all sorts boarding the large silver train. Transgalactic Rail stretched in large golden letters across the sides. Mechanics and engineers were checking the sides of the train to make sure that everything was in proper order. Gazing to the left of the metal platform, Sophia saw the blue tinted plasma rail line shooting towards the west and then finally up into the sky. She knew that galactic rail wasn’t the most luxurious way of traveling, but it was one of the cheaper forms of getting to where she needed to go.
Sophia Downing gripped her large oak staff tightly. She could feel energy and warmth flowing through the staff. Sophia ran a hand through her shoulder length auburn hair. Her chest heaved as her ample breasts protruded from her chest. There was a soft mold to her jaw and her cheekbones were high and inked with freckles. A large scar was imprinted across her neck. The long sleeves of her dark shirt hid even more.
Her dark blue eyes flashed once more at her wristwatch. She really wished that her Elders had sent her to Elysium via Space Air rather than Transgalactic Rail. It was not only faster and more efficient, but Sophia didn’t much care for the train. It always made her nervous.
“All aboard!” the conductor called over the crowd. Sophia looked around to see that most of creatures had boarded. She grabbed the black backpack next to her and slung it over her shoulder. She gripped her staff in anticipation. Sophia walked up to the Martian conductor and held out her ticket. Martians were bipeds, their skin a charcoal grey color. The conductor’s eyes were a bright green, hidden behind wired framed glasses. His snow white hair was cut short around his pointed ears. “Excuse me miss… you cannot bring that staff in here. Weapons are not permitted on board.”
“Oh…. Right!” Sophia exclaimed. She let go of her staff and started to rummage through her pockets. The oak staff floated next to her. Sophia pulled an ID out of her pocket and handed it to the conductor. The conductor read over it and nodded.
“I see… Well then, please step aboard Lady Sophia,” the Martian said as he took Sophia’s ticket and scanned it. The door to the silver car opened up. Grabbing her suitcase and staff, Sophia quickly boarded the train. She quickly moved down the aisle as she searched for her seat. She looked to see many Terrans sitting in the car. Martians sat next to the Terrans as a Neptunian mother with four children sat down near the end, trying to console her youngest.
Sophia found her seat. She quickly stowed her backpack under seat before she sat down facing the front of the train. Across from her sat two male Martians while a Martian female sat next to her. All three were absorbed in paper work. Sophia relaxed as she laid her oak staff under her feet. Four bells chimed over the intercom system as the train shook to life.
“The rail is now departing from Richmond, Virginia, Terra. Our next destinations are Elysium, Mars; the Sol Crossroads, Ganymede; and finally the Penumbra Depths, Charon,” a cheerful voice announced over the intercom. “We thank you for choosing Transgalactic Rail and hope that you will travel with us again.”
Sophia sighed to herself as the train lurched forward before everything became still. The train would be traveling at millions of kilometers by now. She could definitely appreciate the anti-gravity pump that all transportation technology was built with. It really detracted from the g’s that came with tearing away from a planet’s gravitation pull.
The young woman opened her backpack and pulled out a large leather book. The Martian across from her looked up, his green eyes looking at the book. His white eyebrows rose in mild surprise before he returned to his paperwork. Sophia opened the book and looked down at the large parchment papers. The dead language of Latin sprawled the pages along with various diagrams, shapes, and images. Not many Terrans knew Latin anymore in this day and age. Latin was only used for religious purposes anymore by the Catholic Church.
